The Beehive home sits on the grounds of the historic Black Farm, situated on the road that still bears its name, just outside of Glouster, Ohio. The Black family's deep roots here have left more than a legacy in the county records — something of their presence appears to remain.
The valley below, known as Bigfoot Hollow, has long been associated with unexplained phenomena. What began as a working farm has become one of the most consistently active paranormal locations in southeastern Ohio — documented by multiple independent investigation teams who have captured compelling evidence on-site. The total property consists of approximately 16 acres, including a mix of yard, open fields, a large wading creek, and spooky woods.

What Investigators Have Encountered
🛋️ Physical Disturbances
The property has produced compelling physical activity documented by multiple investigators. A couch was moved while an investigator attempted to sleep on it. Another investigator's keys were taken and hidden in the middle of the night — he was nearly late for work the next morning after being unable to find them. An electric organ turned itself on when no one was around, and continued turning itself back on after being switched off, until the investigator finally had to unplug it. Footsteps have been heard moving through unoccupied rooms, and objects have been found displaced from where they were left.
🎙️ Voices, Sounds & Intelligent Interaction
The activity here appears intelligent and responsive. Based on several incidents, it is believed that a Mimic lives on the property. Whistling and other strange sounds have been heard coming from the woods at night. Investigators have heard the voices of their own loved ones calling out from the field, and personal fears have been directly presented — including the sound of a Demogorgon heard by an investigator who fears them. There have also been very active Ouija board and Estes Method sessions. One of the most startling events was when an Ovilus spirit box said the name "Charles," and seconds later, BooBuddy repeated the name "Charles." The BooBuddy bear is only programmed to say a handful of phrases, and names are not on that list, so this experience was quite unsettling.
👁️ Sightings & Unexplained Phenomena
Multiple investigators have observed full-bodied shadow figures and apparitions on the property. Orbs have been captured on video and thermal imaging in the sky and across the surrounding hills. Equipment interference — including unexplained battery drain and EMF spikes — is consistently reported. The property's groundskeeper was chased by something unseen at dusk; he abandoned his running riding mower, leaving it running, and ran to the house in fear, requiring the owner to accompany him back to retrieve it. On a separate occasion, the owner was awoken by her black cat crying outside. She went out and saw him on the roof. She went back in to ask her husband to help get him down — only to find the cat safely inside the house.
🎵 A note about music — the spirits here love it. Activity has been known to increase significantly when guests play instruments. A piano, an organ, and a guitar are available for anyone who wants to play — consider it an invitation.

Captured near the creek in a high-activity area where numerous anomalies have been observed, including suspected Mimic activity. Death On The Property
At least one death has been confirmed to have occurred on the property. Horace J. Black, a lifelong resident of Black Road in Glouster, died at his home on Christmas Eve, 1992, following a brief illness. He had been a 50-year member of the Freemasons. His wife, Violet L. Black, also of Black Road, passed away in 1990. The Black family's deep ties to this land — and their deaths here — are well documented in local records.

Unlike many investigation sites that are abandoned, unheated, and/or uncomfortable, The Beehive at Bigfoot Hollow is a charming, well-kept home offering heat, central A/C, WiFi, and other amenities. We made it cozy because we loved hosting guests — and now we are inviting investigators to experience it too. You will be warm, comfortable, and well-rested. What happens after dark is another matter entirely.

Two bedrooms — one with a full bed, one with a bunk bed (full on the bottom, twin on top). Two bathrooms. Two couches comfortable enough to crash on in the living area. Camping in tents is also welcome in the field or backyard for larger groups.

The property also includes a paintball, airsoft, and laser tag park that can be booked separately. Play during the day and investigate by night!

The living area has a fun retro 70s/80s vibe, complete with a typewriter, View-Master, Lite-Brite, and a large collection of board games. There is also a 50" flatscreen smart TV with Netflix, a Wii console with games, arcade games, and a massage chair. A screened-in back porch, fire pit, and charcoal grill round out the outdoor space.

The Ridges — Athens Lunatic Asylum

Opened in 1874, The Ridges is the undisputed epicenter of Athens County's paranormal reputation. The sprawling former asylum housed patients under brutal early psychiatric treatments, including lobotomies performed in Building 20. Hundreds of patients and Civil War veterans are buried in unmarked, numbered graves across three on-site cemeteries. The most chilling feature is a stain on the floor of one of the upper wards — the silhouette of a patient who died alone and undiscovered for weeks, her outline permanently burned into the floorboards despite decades of attempts to remove it. Now managed by Ohio University, the grounds include walking trails and a museum, though the abandoned wards remain one of the most sought-after paranormal destinations in the state.
The Athens Pentagram

One of Athens County's most enduring legends holds that five local cemeteries, when plotted on a map, form a perfect pentagram — with Ohio University's Wilson Hall sitting precisely at its center. Wilson Hall has long been associated with poltergeist activity, frequently connected to the story of a former student who died in the building. The Koons Spirit Room — Mt. Nebo

Long before The Ridges was built, Athens County was already a national hub for the supernatural. In the 1850s, farmer Jonathan Koons constructed a dedicated "Spirit Room" on Mt. Nebo, just minutes from The Beehive, where he held séances that drew thousands of believers and curiosity-seekers from across the country. Koons claimed to communicate with the dead, and witnesses reported floating, glowing hands and musical instruments moving on their own. The Koons Spirit Room sessions became world famous, cementing this corner of Ohio as a place where the veil between worlds runs thin.
The Weeping Angel — West State Street Cemetery

In Athens' West State Street Cemetery stands one of the region's most haunting landmarks — a stone angel, bent at the knee, writing in an open book. Created by local monument makers the Cross Brothers and dedicated by the Athens High School class of 1924, the statue was intended to honor the unknown dead buried in the cemetery over the previous century. Over the years it has become a focal point for paranormal activity. Visitors have reported the angel appearing to weep, whispering to those who approach, and — most unsettlingly — moving its wings.
The Millfield Mine Disaster

Just six miles down the road lies the site of Ohio's deadliest mining accident. On November 5, 1930, an explosion at the Sunday Creek Coal Company's Poston Mine No. 6 killed 82 men, leaving behind a wound in this community that has never fully healed. Today the site is a quiet historical landmark, marked by the original mine smokestack, a historical plaque, and a memorial monument in nearby Millfield. For those interested in residual energy and tragedy-tied hauntings, this site carries a weight that is hard to ignore.
Moonville Tunnel

Just over the border in Vinton County, the Moonville Tunnel is all that remains of a long-abandoned coal mining town. Legend holds that a railroad brakeman was struck and killed by a train here in the late 1800s, and his spirit never left. Visitors have reported seeing a glowing lantern swinging in the darkness of the tunnel — the brakeman's eternal warning cry. It is one of the most visited and most documented paranormal sites in Ohio.

What is Bigfoot Hollow?
Bigfoot Hollow is the name of the valley and field area. The Beehive is the rental home situated at the top of the hill overlooking it. The surrounding land — including the field where much of the paranormal activity has been observed — is part of the same property.
Do I need to be an experienced investigator to book?
Not at all! We welcome everyone from seasoned paranormal researchers to first-time explorers. If you are new to investigating, you can book a professional investigator to guide your visit and help you get the most out of your stay.
What equipment is available to borrow?
We have the following available for guest use: EVP recorder, EMF detector, cat balls, Ouija board, spirit box, and flashlights. You are also welcome to bring your own equipment.
How many people can stay?
The house comfortably sleeps up to 5 in beds — one full bed, and a bunk bed with a full on the bottom and a twin on top — plus two additional guests on comfortable couches in the living area. Larger groups are welcome to camp in tents in the field or backyard.
What amenities are included?

Can I book the paintball, airsoft, and laser tag park separately?
Yes! The on-site paintball, airsoft, and laser tag park can be booked separately or added to your investigation stay. Mention it in your inquiry and we will provide details.
What is your cancellation policy?
We offer a full refund for cancellations made 14 or more days before your booking date. Cancellations made 7–13 days in advance receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 7 days before the booking date are non-refundable.
Are pets allowed?
As much as we love our furry friends, pets are not permitted at The Beehive. Our neighbors have dogs who get very excited when they spot another animal, and we don't want to disturb the peace — or the investigation!
What are the house rules?
We ask that all guests follow a few simple rules: no smoking indoors (please dispose of cigarette butts responsibly outside), no pets, and please treat the property and its history with respect. Most importantly — please treat any spirits or entities you encounter with kindness. Do not antagonize, provoke, or attempt to frighten them. We love the spirits here and welcome them to stay. Please do not attempt to banish anything from the property.
